Subject: Soft Beds

Dear Mommy:

This is really neat! You know what a foster home is? It's a place with soft beds and a soft thing called a couch for laying on. Oh, and I have what they call stuffed toys to chew on. And you get great food and you don't have to run your butt off to get it. You get dog cookies for nothing - and I'm real good at doing nothing! Maw, the lady Boss, is very kind and makes sure I get out for a walk every day. Maw put my bed beside hers ‘cause I'm so special. There are a couple of other greyhounds here but of course they're not nearly as elegant as I am. There is also one of those ugly stupid smelly fur-ball things here but I ignore him just like you taught me to.

I think I'm going to like living here.

I think we are going on a vacation. A vacation is a visit somewhere new - not to race, but just for fun. Maw has been talking about airplanes and long rides - maybe even to Canada. What is a Canada, Mommy? When I was at the track I saw those airplanes go over. They are very small. I don't think Maw will fit in all too easily. Too bad there won't be enough room for the other dogs. Heh! Heh! Maw and I will enjoy the break.

Maybe if you and the kids are ever this way, maybe you could stop in for a visit or a snack?

Love and kisses,

Dear Foxy:
It all sounds quite wonderful. I'm so pleased you are doing well. You know it's all in the genes - the breeding. And of course, the lessons learned from your mother. Yes, superior breeding and the art of being aloof. Always keeping them off guard.

I don't think we will be coming to visit. I'm expecting again. You might ask your 41 brothers and 52 sisters if they might want to come. They'd love a soft bed and good food.
